چکیده

Introduction: Minerals subjected to high shock pressures exhibit structural changes with increasing pressure (e.g., fractures, deformations, formation of diaplectic glass, and complete melting [1-6]). Petrologic and thermal infrared spectroscopic studies have shown that diaplectic glass (maskelynite) formation in feldspars occurs between ~25-45 GPa, while significant melting occurs above ~45 GPa [712]. Past studies of visible/near-infrared spectra of shocked plagioclase feldspars demonstrated few variations in spectral features with pressure except for a decrease in the absorption feature near 1250 nm and an overall decrease in albedo [13-17]. We report new visible/near-infrared spectra of albiteand anorthiterich rocks experimentally shocked from 17-56 GPa.

Raman Spectroscopy of Shocked Olivine in the Hungarian L-Chondrite, Mócs

Introduction. The Mócs meteorite is L5-type chondrite, which fell in 1882, Kolozs county. The meteorite major modal composition are: olivine, pyroxene, plagioclase feldspars, and opaque minerals. The meteorite is highly fractured, and shock induced veins are also discernible. The fractures are filled by iron rich material. The sample contains shock-metamorphic effects (especially in olivine), s...

Laboratory emissivity measurements of the plagioclase solid solution series under varying environmental conditions

[1] New laboratory thermal infrared emissivity measurements of the plagioclase solid solution series over the 1700 400 cm 1 (6–25 mm) spectral range are presented. Thermal infrared (TIR) spectral changes for fine-particulate samples (0–25 mm) are characterized for the first time under different laboratory environmental conditions: ambient (terrestrial-like), half-vacuum (Mars-like), vacuum, and...

Estimating the modal mineralogy of eucrite and diogenite meteorites using visiblenear infrared reflectance spectroscopy

Reliable quantitative mapping of minerals exposed on Vesta’s surface is crucial for understanding the crustal composition, petrologic evolution, and surface modification of the howardite, eucrite, and diogenite (HED) parent body. However, mineral abundance estimates derived from visible–near infrared (VIS–NIR) reflectance spectra are complicated by multiple scattering, particle size, and nonlin...

Nondestructive Firmness Estimation of Tomato Fruit Using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

Today, nondestructive methods are widely used to determine the quality of agricultural products. Meanwhile, visible and near-infrared (Vis/NIR) spectroscopy is regarded as one of the most widely used methods in the field of quality assessment of agricultural products. In this study, a system was developed to measure the Vis/NIR spectra of tomato fruit samples in the half-transmittance mode of m...

Mantled feldspars and synneusis

Synneusis, the drifting together and systematic attachment of crystals in a melt, is involved in three of the known origins for mantled feldspars: (1) overgrowth, (2) exsolution, and (3) filling of skeletal plagioclase. Quartz latite dikes of the Chocolate Mountains, California, contain plagioclase crystals in parallel and twinned synneusis. Sanidine mantles consisting of segments, each crystal...
